New ‘Dark Souls: The Board Game’ Core Sets Hit Stores

Steamforged Games has officially released DARK SOULS: The Board Game, Painted World of Ariamis and DARK SOULS: The Board Game, Tomb of Giants for online and in-store purchase.

With the hotly-anticipated, community-driven changes to the ruleset generating significant interest, those looking to pick up the new releases are urged to purchase early to avoid disappointment.

These two new core sets come five years after the original DARK SOULS: The Board Game release. Steamforged have gathered comprehensive player feedback in that time, and worked closely with the community on the new sets to deliver a refreshed ruleset that meets player demand.

Painted World of Ariamis and Tomb of Giants are compatible with all existing games and expansions from the product range, and players can still use their existing copies with the amended game mechanics without needing new cards.

Both sets are also standalone, making them a great entry point for any player yet to explore the world of DARK SOULS on the tabletop.

  • The updated rulebook is freely available to view on the Steamforged website.
  • Those interested in the changes to the campaign system can read a blog from Lead Game Designer, Sherwin Matthews, which covers this topic in detail.

Each set explores an iconic area from the original DARK SOULS video game. Tomb of Giants explores the area below the Catacombs filled with nightmarish, skeletal creatures and the formidable Gravelord Nito, and Painted World of Ariamis sets players against a range of abominations sealed away in a painting, including fan-favourite Bonewheel Skeletons and Crossbreed Priscilla.

As you might expect, a range of highly-detailed miniatures are included in each set, with several standard enemies, a mini boss, and a boss per box. These pre-assembled, coloured miniatures are a significant upgrade on the durability and fidelity when compared to those of the original 2016 board game.

Lead Game Designer for these new sets, Sherwin Matthews, commented the following:

“I can’t wait to see DARK SOULS: The Board Game veterans and new players alike get their hands on these new sets. It’s been a lot of fun to explore an iconic location from Lordran in each one, and there’s plenty in there for series fans to enjoy. And, with the revitalised ruleset, we’ve taken the best bits of the original board game and built on them to create a streamlined, satisfying experience set in the rich DARK SOULS universe.”

These sets are available to purchase on the Steamforged webstore and in all good Friendly Local Gaming Stores:
