Thames and Kosmos continues to provide a wide variety of toys, games, and other products for people of all ages. My cousins and I were able to try out one of their newest products, Knox the Wacky Walking Rebot (part of the ReBotz line) for ages 6 and up.
Knock, knock, knocking on wooden floors — this wacky walking ReBot is pieced together from a tennis racket, hammer, and the rear wheels of a tricycle following the lore that it is now 2583 and humans are gone. Left behind are robots who roam the wastelands in search of spare parts and other Rebotz, surviving by using the scavenged parts to perform repairs and upgrades on themselves.
The robots are ostensibly fast and easy to build and demonstrate different aspects of tech, in this case, wheels, slider cranks, and motors in action. Each one is powered by an electric motor (you will need 3 AAA batteries) but can be moved around manually too.
You can also combine parts from the other Rebotz. Scootz the Cranky Crawling Robot, Pogo the Jammin’ Jumping Robot, and Halfpipe the Shredding Skater Robot round out this ReBotz family.
My cousins and I had a pretty great time trying to piece the robot together, but did struggle because the instruction photos weren’t as clear to us as they might be to others. The kits come with 13 pieces, instructions, and a sticker sheet to decorate your robot as you wish.
For $11.95, this is a great little project for kids and you can purchase all four robots together for $46.95.
