Owlcat Games Will Break Into Action RPGs With The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

During this weekend’s Future Games Showcase, Owlcat Games — creators of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader — announced that they have joined forces with Alcon Interactive Group to announce The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a narrative third-person action RPG set in the universe of TV series The Expanse, based on the book series by James SA Corey. It will be the developer’s first foray out of their usual CRPG format.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn delivers an original story of survival and loyalty, and significantly expands the world of The Expanse depicted in the TV show and novels. Players step into the boots of a Pinkwater Security mercenary stranded in the wrong place at the worst time. Trapped on Eros Station during a deadly lockdown, they will need to lead a crew, take command of the system’s most advanced ship, and navigate a fractured solar system teetering on the edge of chaos.

By the 24th century, humanity has conquered space — but that hasn’t made life any easier. In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a story-driven sci-fi RPG, you play as a Pinkwater Security mercenary whose shore leave on Eros spirals into crisis. Trapped in a deadly lockdown and drawn into a conflict far beyond your control, you’ll have to adapt, survive, and take command of the most advanced ship in the system.

Create and customize your own captain — Earther, Martian, or Belter — and lead a crew of specialists through escalating threats, political pressure, and life-or-death missions. In a solar system held together by fragile alliances, every decision leaves a mark.

“We’ve been dreaming about building a sci-fi action RPG of this scale for a long time, and The Expanse is the perfect universe to bring that vision to life,” says Owlcat’s Creative Director, Alexander Mishulin. “It’s a world grounded in realism and complexity, perfect for telling a story the way we like it  — mature and character-driven, where your choices truly matter. We are excited to bring this new experience to our players and look forward to sharing more soon, especially knowing how many questions our fans will have.”

“The original Mass Effect trilogy was absolutely an inspiration to the team. It was iconic for the Xbox 360 generation of gamers. Many of us first played it in our teenage years, and it left a lasting impression,” says Yuliya Chernenko, Game Design Producer. “We are building on that legacy and expanding what players anticipate from this experience. Our story is deeply rooted in hard science fiction — one of the core reasons The Expanse universe resonates so well with its fans. The combat reflects the standards of modern action gameplay. The narrative emphasizes political tension and moral complexity. And yes — there’s romance too.”

Owlcat Games calls The Expanse: Osiris Reborn its flagship project. Owlcat’s roster of titles is nothing short of jaw-dropping, with other major titles including Warhammer 40,000: Rogue TraderPathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and its newly announced title, Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy. Rest assured, the team behind The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is completely separate from Owlcat’s other projects and therefore will not hinder excellence elsewhere.

Key features of The Expanse: Osiris Reborn:

A Story-Driven RPG True to The ExpanseImmerse yourself in a narrative grounded in tension, consequence, and the complexity of humanity’s future among the stars

Create Your Own Captain: Play as an Earther, Martian, or Belter and take command of the system’s most advanced ship. Shape your journey through identity, leadership, and the pressure of survival.

Lead a Crew: Your companions are more than mission assets — they’re people with their own scars and loyalties. Some are chasing redemption. Others are hiding truths. Over time, relationships grow or break depending on your choices and how you lead. The ship becomes your home — a place where trust is earned, not given.

The Expanse: Osiris Reborn combat

Tactical Third-Person Combat: Fight in third-person using cover-based gunplay and class-driven powers. Bring two companions into the field while others support from a distance — disabling systems or drawing enemy attention. You’ll issue real-time commands and adapt quickly to survive what the system throws at you.

Explore a Divided Solar System: Visit iconic locations like Ganymede, Ceres, Mars, and Luna. Walk through ruined habitats and tense political strongholds. Talk to locals. Uncover secrets. Use your skills to influence what happens next. The system looks different from every rock. Some are falling apart. Others just hide it better. And sometimes, a familiar name or voice reminds you just how small the system really is.
