Meow Wolf, Exalted Funeral, and Genuine Entertainment have combined forces, bodies, and minds into one amorphous mass of imagination to produce Tavers: The Meow Wolf Roleplaying Game, the official RPG for the Meow Wolf Universe coming to Kickstarter Spring 2026.
Meow Wolf, the immersive arts and entertainment company, is known for its enthralling mix of art, storytelling, and interactivity – orchestrating a truly immersive art experience that empowers visitors to choose their own way as they wander and wonder at will. Founded in 2008 as a punk rock art collective, Meow Wolf has since evolved into a global phenomenon that has redefined how audiences engage with art through its signature style — bold, maximalist environments designed for full sensory immersion and self-guided exploration. With House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe as its first permanent exhibition, Meow Wolf has expanded to Las Vegas, Denver, Dallas, and Houston, with upcoming locations in LA and New York City.
“Meow Wolf is all about connecting with each other – coming together to dream up big, improbable ideas that can only happen if we make them together. That’s part of why RPGs feel like home to us,” said Luke Dorman, Senior Creative Director of Visual Development. “RPGs have always been a platform for self-expression and a portal for people to inhabit and explore imaginative worlds, so it’s a perfect arena for us to bridge the gap between our exhibits and everyday life. Until now, we’ve only been able to reach the people who come to us and physically step into our worlds. Now with the RPG, not only can our worlds come to you, but you also get to inhabit and shape our worlds like never before.”
The Meow Wolf RPG allows you to play Tavers, who have the power to create portals into new worlds, alternate realities, even new states of existence. The gameplay instills an “exquisite corpse” style storytelling with a focus on uncovering mysteries and exploration of the strange and unknown.
Each character has a personal connection to a wild power of unbridled intent that empowers players to do far more than skill checks; daring to manifest impossible ideas that defy logic, shift perception, and reshape reality itself. “Imagination and creativity are the real magic of our world, and it’s similar in the Meow Wolf Universe,” said Tiger Wizard, lead designer at Exalted Funeral. “Immortal cybernetic hamsters, underground rat punks, sentient pizza, and community radio are just the appetizers. We’re going full gonzo on this menu.”
Like the exhibits, players are encouraged to wander and reimagine on their own terms through existing Meow Wolf worlds and new realities, mysteries, and anomalies of their own making. Every choice or turned corner can take the story in different directions; even the memories shared by players in and outside of the game become actual in-game inventory and currency that only add to the reality-blurring immersion and what becomes a truly unique, unpredictable, and unforgettable storytelling experience every time.
“If you know us, you can probably guess that we were already Meow Wolf fans,” said Matt Kelley, owner of Exalted Funeral. “Meow Wolf specifically requested a publisher brazen and batshit crazy enough to break the mold, and apply their same genre-defying approach to shake up everything we know about RPGs. I’m not sure what it says about us that we were the first people they called, but we can’t argue that we’re the right kind of crazy for the job.”
Herding these cats and creatures is Joe LeFavi at Genuine Entertainment, who brought Meow Wolf and Exalted Funeral together and serves as a producer, brand manager, and sandwich artist on the RPG. “When you step inside a Meow Wolf, you find yourself just walking around for hours. Brain melting, mouth agog… Overwhelmingly in AWE of the sensory experience swallowing you whole,” said LeFavi. “The sheer imagination and collaboration necessary to make Meow Wolf possible is unfathomable, and yet that’s the sandbox we’re building for gamers and Meow Wolves alike. I can’t wait to see what they do.”
