Disney Lorcana continues releasing new products to add to their line, this time it’s Reign of Jafar. This set plays with existing cards and you can form combos with other cards already out there as well. Reign of Jafar focuses on making the game and mechanics better between deck types and does not offer anything strikingly new. So the new cards won’t ruin your current deck or your already set strategies, but this new set of cards may also help with those cards that just became lost with no reason to use them. Disney Lorcana Reign of Jafar is published by Ravensburger and this is their second year of continuing this well-loved card game.

What’s in the Box?
There are several sets and packages to be able to play this game. I was sent the Illumineer’s Trove for Reign of Jafar that includes:
- 8 Booster packs each including 12 cards each
- 6 Damage counter dice
- 6 Card dividers
- 1 Lore counter
- 1 card storage box

How’s It Play?
The game is played the same way as other version of the game, and you can read my review of how to play from my previous review of Lorcana: Shimmering Skies.
But there are some strategies that you can use in this copy that might be new to you or it might just be different as you have new cards. But the game plan centers around getting lore as fast as possible. Of course you still need to stop your opponent from catching up to you, or maybe you are slowing them down so you can get ahead of them. But they will be removing your characters if they can. By reducing strength or blocking the “ready” ability, it might just well enough give you the time you need.

Try to make every turn the most you can by getting singers out there and having a good amount of songs. This deck adds to the depth with added combos that you didn’t have before. Of course the players who know the cards will do better as they can find these new combos, but things are still difficult as you need a defensive plan as well.
The Verdict
One of the decks also focuses on strength to take down their opponent, while gaining lore when doing so. You want to keep your character alive while also challenging the other player. Miscalculating has be a huge problem if you even leave a character on the board with 1 or 2 willpower. The other deck also encourages you to gain lore quickly, but also to sing songs. You want to remove characters fast, especially the ones who are singers with song effects. Huey is very valuable, anything with Rush can help get him out.

It is different to play with each different decks, so you’ll want to try them both to see which strategies you like to play with.
