The End of the World as We Know It Lands Its Leads

According to Deadline, the two female leads for CW’s pilot have finally been cast. The show, described as a comedy-drama, combines science fiction with the struggles of being a millennial woman. Based on the 2012 novel by Iva-Marie Palmer, friends Kate and Ruby are tasked with rounding up the universe’s most deadly aliens after a prison spaceship crash lands in SoCal. Because, you know, the guards or police on the ship can’t do it for some reason.

Anywho, let’s break down the characters. Kate, described as a struggling actress unable to catch her big break, will be played by Gage Golightly of Teen Wolf and Red Oaks fame. Her intergalactic constabulary partner, Ruby, is an MIT student whose intelligence is only matched by her short attention span. Interestingly, Ruby will be played by Quinta Brunson. YouTube faithful will recognize her from digital giant, Buzzfeed and a plethora of videos or short series she’s been a part of (Broke).  If The End of the World as We Know It is ordered to series and actually succeeds in ratings, Brunson will be the first digital media actor to fully make the jump to a traditional medium.

The End of the World as We Know It hails from Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) and Warner Bros. TV, and is being written by Powerless executive producers/showrunners Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker. Halpern and Schumacker are executive producing the pilot/series through their company Ehsugadee Productions along with Thomas.
