Cara Delevingne Joins Orlando Bloom in Neo-Victorian Fantasy Carnival Row

Joining the already announced Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings Trilogy), Cara Delevingne (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets) is getting her fairy dust on for the Amazon drama.

Produced by Legendary Television and from the minds of Rene Echevarria (Star Trek) and Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim), Carnival Row is an eight episode fantasy-noir series revolving around mythical fantasy creatures who have fled their war-torn home countries. These immigrant refugees are now flocking to said Neo-Victorian city for shelter. The plot will follow a string of unsolved murders that threaten to light a match on the powder keg of barely kept tension that has swept over the city. Major themes of the series dealing with immigration and anti-immigration sentiments have sharply coincided with continuing real world events, and will likely draw some parallel. Especially with reported rampant anti-fairy prejudice from the human population of Burgue.

The Hollywood Reporter establishes that Delevingne’s character is reported to be a fairy named Vignette Stonemoss and is one of the aforementioned war refugees fleeing to the Burgue for hopes of safety. She is also, apparently, bringing some dark secrets from her past with her. Bloom will play the lead, a police inspector named Rycroft Philostrate investigating the murder of a fairy showgirl on the eponymous Carnival Row.

Carnival Row begins filming this fall and is slated for release in 2019 on Amazon’s Prime platform. Bloom is also set to serve as a producer, with Paul McGuigan (Luke Cage, Lucky Number Slevin) tapped to step in as an executive producer, in addition to directing the ambitious series.
