Watch This Romantic Trailer for The Hitman’s Bodyguard

That is, if your idea of romantic is watching Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek, and Ryan Reynolds in a funny action flick. If so, The Hitman’s Bodyguard has your future date nights covered. If you don’t find this romantic, well, I’m not sure we can go on a date. Or be friends. Sorry.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard follows a special agent (played by Reynolds) who must protect one of the world’s most notorious hitmen (Jackson, obviously) on their way to the International Court of Justice. Along the way, they’ll fight off other assassins looking for their heads and eventually team up against a ruthless Eastern European dictator. As expected, of course. Apparently, the hitman’s wife (played by Hayek) will help her troubled love along the way.

Watch this beautiful trailer below and try not to cry at how lovely it is:

I’m weeping, y’all. Eat your eat out Casablanca. To be honest, though, I’m not sure who I’m shipping here. Jackson and Reynolds seem a pretty viable pair. On the other hand, Jackson and Hayek have history and I’ve always preferred canon ships respecting the character’s choices. It’s a tough choice.

Whatever the case, this looks like a freaking riot. If Ryan Reynolds wants to spend the rest of his career making genre-aware action flicks, I’m more than willing to watch them. The guy might have found his niche and I’m always happy to watch action movies that don’t take themselves seriously. Especially when I get to watch a cast this good.

The Hitman’s Bodyguard hits theaters this month, on August 18. Along with the aforementioned trio, the film features Gary Oldman as the villain (home run, movie, home run), Elodie Yung, Joaquim de Almeida, Kirsty Mitchell, Richard E. Grant, and Sam Hazeldine. Here’s hoping the film doesn’t squander the immense potential of all these elements.
