After the pranks of two elementary school students lands them in hot water with their principal, they accidentally hypnotize him. And as kids do, they take advantage of this. How? By turning him into the real life version of a comic book hero they created named Captain Underpants!
Because what kid turns down that chance? This predictably backfires on them as they cannot control the grown man running around in a cape and underwear. Eventually, their newfound superhero must stop a teacher/mad scientist named Professor Poopypants from taking over the world. Hey, it looks fun enough in trailer form. I also love the role of these kids’ imaginations in the movie. You do you, reckless pranksters. Maybe one day you’ll create the next Adventure Time.
Watch the trailer below. It’s pretty funny.
Based on a series of children’s novels by Dav Pilkey, Captain Underpants is the latest film by animated giant Dreamworks Animation. Time will tell if it will join franchises like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and Madagascar in status and box office. I’ve never been much a Shrek fan myself, but I’ll take another Kung Fu Panda any day.
Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie releases on June 2. The talented voice cast includes Ed Helms, Kevin Hart, Thomas Middleditch, Nick Kroll, Jordan Peele, and Kristen Schaal. I’m looking forward to Schaal’s amazing laugh, if nothing else.
