I know, I know, what could be confusing about a Cars 3 trailer? It’s cars. We have two movies telling us what these movies are about. And odds are the third entry will follow suit.

Except, well, this trailer seems to want to excite people in confusing ways.

I mean, I’ll grant you that the third car is sexy, but we should probably keep that a secret.

Really, it is what it is; a lazy trailer. Which is disappointing since the first trailer is actually pretty cool. You get a look at series protagonist Lightning McQueen crashing, which plays into the movie’s plot of the car losing his place to a new generation of racers. It has drama and looks great.

Here you just get a look at the main characters of the movie in the form of a stereotypical car commercial with stereotypical “buy this car and your biggest crush will want sex from you” music playing. I mean, why bother? Especially in this format? I don’t know. I suppose some people will love it, but I find it pretty weird and dumb.

Cars 3 is set for release on June 16, 2017. Among those lending their voices to the film are Owen Wilson, Cristela Alonzo, Armie Hammer, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, and Cheech Marin.

Well, at least this trailer didn’t feel like a bizarre dark and gritty reboot of a kid’s cartoon. But yeah, this is not a trailer. This is the kind of stuff that usually either goes in a teaser or on the website as other “Meet the Characters” type content. I am so confused everything surrounding this movie right now.

  • What I find most amusing is that like seafaring vessels most cars are feminine, but especially sports cars. They are designed with female curves in mind, hence long, lingering shots on their ‘curves’. They’re feminized objects for males to purchase and control (it’s really gross).

This trailer takes that exact format, but all the cars are (presumably, from their names and styling) male. It’s an interesting choice, to say the least.
