Trailer for mother! Starring Jennifer Lawrence

The latest by acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky of Black Swan and The Wrestler fame, mother! assembles a star-studded cast to tell its story of creepy strangers intruding in a married couple’s life. This creepiness appears to involve bloody rituals, secret rooms, and hallucinations. The couple also appears to have some unknown connection to the husband that he refuses to talk about.

So your typical visit from the in-laws. We’ve all been there.

Am I weird to think this trailer almost paints Jennifer Lawrence’s character as the bad guy here? I actually hope that’s the twist. Stop spying on the other people having sex, lady, and stop breaking your house. If not, well, she married Javier Bardem. You don’t marry Anton Chigurh and live a normal life.

We’ll see where this film lands among Aronofsky’s impressive list of films. His involvement certainly lends an expectation to the quality, and mother! has been selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 74th Venice International Film Festival. Here’s hoping it delivers. This would be a great cast to waste.

mother! releases in theaters on September 15. The film stars Lawrence, Bardem, Ed Harris, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kristen Wiig, Domhnall Gleeson, and Brian Gleeson.
