As if having the entire first season of Wynonna Earp released on Nexflix this Saturday weren’t enough. The universe has done us Wynonna Earp fans, or Earpers, one better: the official first trailer for S2 is here and boy is it rip-roaring fun.
The great-great-granddaughters of Wyatt Earp, Wynonna and Waverly, look ready to bring more gun-totin’, demon huntin’, weapon wieldin’, butt-kickin’, action back to our screens. Round it all out with humor, dancing, kissing, sexual tension, and Wynonna’s own special blend of sass and situation humor, and we have ourselves a wild ride of a second season. And all with a boot tappin’ sound track that perfectly blends rock ‘n roll with classic western twang. Check out the trailer to see for yourself.
Did this ever put the tease in teaser trailer! Starting off with Wynonna and Waverly back on the same team kicking demon butt seems an odd choice at first. It seems to take the tension out of the season finale cliffhanger. As you may recall, S1 ended with Waverly infected by black monster goo and going all demon eyes on her sister and Doc. Rather than play off that tension, the trailer has several scenes of her back to normal. In fact, she seems to be a source of information for an increase in demon activity headed toward the Ghost River Triangle. Whatever she means by ‘legion’, though, we know it’s going to be awesome and scary enough that that’s the focus of the season, not her going all Black Eyes McShooty.
Did I mention all the guns? There are so many. And crowbars. And fist-fighting. And also lots of guns. And was that a room filled with glowing blue monster/demon eggs? God, I can’t wait.
As with the show itself, the trailer seamlessly blends sass, humor, and romantic interest with the action-packed supernatural elements. Waverly dancing in that cheerleading outfit alone is worth seeing. Bless you Emily Andres, even if you are a merciless tease. I spied a WayHaught kiss (they’re ‘pretty gay’ this season) and a WynDolls kiss. Though the trailer wouldn’t be complete without a sexually charged WynDoc scene at the weirdest moment—they look like they’re in a decontamination shower. Yet, Wynonna still manages to be queen of the situationally awkward humor. Only Wynonna would compliment the a woman’s choice in underwear with that woman’s gun in her face. It’s everything I loved most about S1: action, sarcasm, and sister bonding with a side of camp and sexy times.
I’m intrigued to see where Doll’s storyline progresses as well. Last season left him imprisoned by the Black Badge division to stand trail for treason. But, it looks like Purgatory is going to need him, serum and all, before the season is over. Even more monsters are coming, and the Earp sisters still have a family curse to thwart.
Based on Beau Smith’s IDW comic of the same name, Wynonna Earp stars Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly Earp), Shamier Anderson (Xavier Dolls), and Tim Rozen (Doc Holliday). Season 2 premieres Friday June 9th at 10pm EST on Syfy.
While you’re waiting for S2 to air, why not check out Season 1? The entire first season is now available to watch on Netflix as of April 1st!
