Fantasy Flight Games Announces Star Wars: Outer Rim

We’ve seen the Empire and traversed through the Old and New Republics. Now, Fantasy Flight Games takes players through the wild, wild galactic west to the Outer Rim. Considered a hive of outlaws and ne’er do wells, this chaotic society also represents, for the brave at heart, boundless opportunity. Star Wars: Outer Rim is designed for our intrepid players who wish to make their name and fortune starting with a single ship and hopefully a lot of help from Lady Luck.

With the ability to hire a crew, including Star Wars characters themselves, players may just find themselves rising to the top of the Rim, but beware. Other denizens will target you and try to steal your fortune and your life. Or you might be caught in the crossfire of warring galactic factions. Nobody ever promised the ride to riches would be easy, but fortune favors the bold.

The game is based on turns, seeing players able to take on jobs, track down individuals for bounties, upgrade their ships and more. The goal is to gain fame and become a living legend in the Outer Rim. Once players have gained 10 fame, they take their place as a Star Wars legend.

Part of the fun of the game looks to be in choosing a character. With eight choices, players can select from Lando Calrissian, Jyn Erse, and Han Solo, to Doctor Aphra. There’s no shortage of gameplay, and this isn’t even counting the sheer selection available for upgrading your ship (anyone fancy making their own Millennium Falcon?). Crew members can also be added during gameplay, including Chewbacca and Hondo Ohnaka. Players can also utilize their different character’s unique skillsets. These will come in handy as,¬†after every turn, players draw encounter cards that can either cost reputation, gain a crew, buy a mod, and more, all depending on whether you succeed or fail.

Star Wars: Outer Rim is expected for a second-quarter release in 2019.
