Fallout 76 Will Be Bigger And Badder Than Any Other Fallout Game

Bethesda went into E3 with the biggest mystery in gaming: what in tarnation is Fallout: 76 ? Is it online? A full game? An MMO? A troll by Todd? At Bethesda’s E3 conference, we got our answer.

Fallout 76 is going to be a little bit of all of those things. If you don’t have time to watch the full reveal, cause it’s a doozy, here’s the key points.

  • The map for 76 will be 4x bigger than any previous Fallout game.
  • It’s set in West Virginia, in one of the first vaults ever built. It will also be the first vault to open, and your survivor will emerge into a brand new wasteland untouched by humans for decades.
  • The game will always be online.
  • It will be a “shared survival” game in the spirit of games like Rust, where the player can team up with other real life humans to fight monsters and run settlements…or kill them for their resources. Luckily, being killed in the game doesn’t destroy your loot or experience.
  • It will also retain elements of classic Fallout, like quests and RPG levelling. No word on VATS, however.
  • There will be nuclear silos acting as control points for players to fight over.
  • They’re actually doing a beta for a Bethesda game!
  • The special edition will have all the bits and bobs you expect plus a full-size, honest-to-god, wearable power armor helmet.
