UPDATED: Crunchyroll Drops Trailer for New Original Series ‘The God of High School’

Crunchyroll just unveiled first look for their newest original series, The God of High School. Based on the Yongje Park comic published by WEBTOON, The God of High School will be an action-packed series following Jin Mori, a carefree and easy-going high schooler who also fights using taekwondo, as well as his friends Yoo Mira, a Moonlight sword user, and Han Daewi, a Kyokushin karate fighter, as they compete in the epic God of High School tournament.

An interdisciplinary martial arts competition, the three will borrow power directly from the gods and uncover a mysterious organization along the way. Each of the three is entering the tournament for different reasons. Jin Mori was a formerly unbeatable fighter who was haded the first loss of his life by one of the tournament judges. Yoo Mira has been told by her family that in order to resurrect their sword style she needs to marry a “strong man”, so she’s entered to look for a husband. Han Daewi is fighting for his friend who has an incurable disease but was promised a potential cure on victory. Animation for series is produced by MAPPA.

Voicing Jin Mori is Tatsumaru Tachibana who has a couple of previous credits from Case File nº221 and Alchemist Code. This will be his breakout role, though Tachibana has also been active in theatre. Han Daewi will be played by Kentaro Kumagai whose credits include Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Record of Grancrest War, and Hinomaru Sumo. Ayaka Ohashi will be voicing Yoo Mira, and you might recognize her from Aikatsu!, BanG Dream!, Magical Girl Ore, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, and more.

Sunghoo Park, whose previous credits include GARO -VANISHING LINE- will be directing the series. Character design will be done by Akita Manabu who has credits on Kakegurui and Rage of Bahamut among many others. The God of High School is set to premiere on Crunchyroll this July. Earlier this year, Crunchyroll had announced their Crunchyroll Originals lineup, with eight series spanning several genres. In/Spectre has already premiered, and Tower of God is currently airing on the platform.
