The independent, queer-centered production company Americana Pictures will be delivering two new titles to stream sooner than you think.
SUMMER AFTER, the highly-anticipated follow-up to the 2020 film SUMMER OF MESA which went viral upon its worldwide release via YouTube is slated for a Spring 2022 premiere (see film announcement via official Instagram: here). The sequel will focus on three queer teens in the year of 1986 on Cape Cod, Massachusetts where the first film was set.
In a 2021 interview with Lesflicks, filmmaker and CEO of Americana Pictures Josh Cox stated that the film is “not a conventional cliché story that we see a lot about gay people, where we’re trying to get two characters to get together. It’s a story about this [particular] queer person just going through complex emotions and feelings and trying to move past them.”
The second title — to be released in the fall under Americana Pictures’ “films shot on film” division ‘Americana Pictures Classics’ — titled DINO AT THE BEACH centers around two young men and queer cruise culture in 1960s America, shot on 16mm. While little information has been released regarding the project, a rep for Americana states that a full press run will shortly follow the distribution rollout for SUMMER AFTER. So, it’s safe to say that LGBT+ fans, and audiences of cinema in general, have a good amount of content to look forward to in 2022 under the Americana Pictures lineup.
